ABOUT

Erika was raised in the Virginia suburbs of Washington, D.C. by her mother, an immigrant from Guatemala. As the youngest of three daughters, her childhood was shaped by summer trips to visit their Abuelita in the suburbs of Guatemala City. She attended high school in Alexandria, Virginia and then college at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville.

She started her career in finance in D.C. but realized the thing she liked discussing most with her clients was their philanthropic vision and plan. So she left finance to work in the non-profit industry for the next twelve years. Most recently, Erika worked in development for a bilingual preschool that serves Latinx children and their families in Charlotte.

Erika married her wonderful husband, Len, and together they welcomed a son and then a daughter. The family moved to North Carolina eight years ago and made a home in the Dilworth neighborhood of Charlotte.

About five years ago, Erika began writing memoir and essays based on her childhood experiences after her friend and mentor encouraged her to “Trust the Whisper” and pursue writing. Erika had the good luck of finding an incredible and supportive writing group that meets weekly in-person and via Zoom. Her writing partners range from journalists to spiritual writers to memoirists in the US and Europe, but they all have a love of writing and supporting each other in common. Erika began sharing her writings on a blog she named Landings.

But it ended up being a dream and a bedtime story that inspired her to different kind of writing and her first book. Read more here.

Erika’s writings can also be found on ScaryMommy, Women Faith Story, and Charlotte is Creative. She is thrilled to be living a creative life and encourages everyone to use their gifts in their own way to make an impact in this world.
